About

The Whirlwind Mini Tour Overview The Whirlwind Mini Tour runs annually from January to August, offering young players a chance to track their progress and compete in a fun, supportive environment. It provides an excellent opportunity for skill development and prepares players for more advanced competitions.

Purpose The Mini Tour helps young players learn how to play matches, develop confidence, and gain valuable experience. Supported by Whirlwind Sports, a family-run business since 1980, the tour is dedicated to fostering competitive tennis in Cornwall and Devon.

Whirlwind Winter Series Introduced in September 2021, the Winter Series runs from September to December. While it has no Masters finals, players can compete for leaderboard trophies and earn a free T-shirt by participating in four events within the same age group.

How It Works

Players aged 8U (Red), 9U (Orange), and 10U (Green) earn leaderboard points for matches played and won. A player’s top six results contribute to their final score. The top players in Devon and Cornwall qualify for the Masters finals to determine the champions. Players can compete in events across both counties, with points contributing to their home County leaderboard. Scoring System

10 points per match played. 40 points for each match won. Minimum of 4 events, with at least 2 in the home County, required to qualify for the Masters finals. The Whirlwind Mini Tour and Winter Series encourage young players to enjoy the sport, build confidence, and strive for excellence in a structured yet fun competition.

Experience

The Whirlwind Mini Tour offers coaching services for young tennis players, focusing on the following age groups:

Red Ball (8U): For players aged 8 and under, using red balls on smaller courts to develop fundamental skills.

Orange Ball (9U): For players aged 9 and under, using orange balls on mid-sized courts to enhance technique and movement.

Green Ball (10U): For players aged 10 and under, using green balls on full-sized courts to prepare for standard tennis play.

These programmes are designed to help young players learn match play, gain valuable experience, and build confidence through competitive and cooperative games. The coaching sessions aim to develop technical and physical skills, as well as social abilities, in a fun and engaging environment.
