About
ABOUT FGSD FGSD was established over 60 years ago, and offers weekly Ballet, Pointe, Tap and Theatre Craft classes for children and adults. The school is a family run business, founded by Freda Gurney. Freda handed the school to her daughter, Kim Jenkins - who now teaches alongside her daughter, Cara. Pupils are prepared and have the opportunity to take IDTA examinations which are held locally every year. These examinations give the students the opportunity to progress in individual grades and medals, and also take part and be examined in team dances. The school continues to enjoy excellent results in all areas.
Classes are taught by fully qualified and registered IDTA teachers, whose experience will ensure that the students will be taught in a safe, fun and effective environment.
The aim of the dance school is to help students achieve their personal best and adopt a love for dancing. The classes help the pupils to gain co-ordination, musical awareness and self confidence.
Our Classes
Children's Ballet Classes
Ballet is the basis of all dance. The classes follow the IDTA syllabus which develops strong technique combined with an understanding of co-ordination, musicality, strength and good posture. Available from 2.5 years, children can continue into Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Children's Tap Classes
Tap introduces a rhythmical area of dance. The classes follow the IDTA syllabus and aim to help the children gain balance, self confidence and co-ordination while learning new rhythms. Tap classes are available from 3-4 years of age and exams are taken right through to Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Children's Theatre Classes
The children's theatre craft classes allow students to develop their performance levels, whilst also offering to widen the pupil's dancing abilities, through an additional style. The modern based syllabus focuses on a 'fun' theatre dance technique.
Adult's Ballet Classes
The adult ballet classes are for beginners, intermediate and advanced standard and are for adults looking for an enjoyable way of exercising. Adult medal exams are available to those who are interested as individuals and/or teams.
Adult's Tap Classes
The adult tap classes are for beginners, intermediate and advanced standard and are for adults looking for an enjoyable way of exercising. Adult medal exams are available to those who are interested as individuals and/or teams.
Pre-Pointe/Pointe Class
Ballet pupils are assessed throughout, and are invited along to these classes when it is felt they are ready. Pre-pointe prepares pupils for pointe work alongside the syllabus work that the general classes follow. Once considered ready, they are then invited to go on pointe. This class incorporates exercises from the grades through to Advanced work.
