About

Hailsham is a small market town located about 7 miles north of the seaside resort of Eastbourne and within easy reach of the South Downs National Park.

We were founded on 1st October 1984 and currently have about 100 members. We meet on alternate Wednesdays and have two walks programmes.

The short walk (often referred to as The Strollers) is generally on flat paved ground with no stiles and only slight inclines is about 2 to 3 miles in length and often incorporating a refreshment stop. Recently, we have started our intermediate walks which are for those who enjoy the strollers' walks but would like to walk further, around three to four miles. The longer walks are about 4 to 6 miles in length on undulating terrain and can include stiles and steep inclines. These walks will be more arduous than the short walk.

The meeting point for both walks is South Road Car Park where parking is free of charge where we then drive to the walk's starting point. We meet from 9.15am for a 9.30am start and operate a car share scheme for members who have no transport.

In addition to walking, we organise various social events which include monthly 10pin bowling during the winter months, a short summer holiday, a summer lunch, a Christmas lunch, a New Years Day get-together and a day's excursion during the summer months to a place of interest. We also have a monthly coffee morning for a chat over a cup of coffee and a snack at a local hostelry.

The club is organised by a committee of 8 members who are elected each year at our A.G.M. If you are interested in becoming a member or would like further information about Hailsham Ramblers please go to the New Members tab on our site.

PROGRAMME OF WEDNESDAY WALKS

We always meet at the Cuckoo Trail Car Park off South Road at 9.15 for a 9.30 start. Just turn up, no need to book.

The Strollers' walks are usually about 2 - 3 miles in length. The intermediate walks are 3 - 4 miles long and do not run in the winter. These walks always include refreshments at the end of the walk at a pub or restaurant near where we have parked. The long walks of 4 - 6 miles can involve steep inclines and stiles. All walkers should wear boots or stout shoes and bring something to drink, which is especially important in the summer months. It is recommended that members should carry their own first aid kit and Hailsham Ramblers Membership card with emergency contact details on the back. Please inform the walk leader if you intend to meet the group at the start of the walk instead of meeting at the Cuckoo Trail Car Park, off South Road, as changes may have been made. Although walking is one of the safest activities, we expect walkers to behave responsibly and to comply with any instructions or advice given by our walk leaders.
